React Native and backend delivery for an AI companion for older adults, with voice conversations and family check-ins.
The product challenge
An AI companion needs continuity: a person should be able to sign in with different providers without losing their conversation history. The mobile experience also needs to connect voice interactions and family check-ins to dependable backend services.
What I built
- Built the React Native mobile app and Laravel backend for phone-style AI conversations, live captions, and family check-ins.
- Unified Google, Facebook, and Apple sign-in around one identity and shared conversation history using Firebase Auth.
- Shipped authentication-protected AWS Lambda and Cloudflare Worker services, with test suites.
- Evaluated voice cloning, image generation, and on-device language models as part of AI research and development.
Engineering approach
The identity work centered on treating the person as the stable account, rather than treating each sign-in provider as a separate user. This connected authentication to the conversation history the product needed to preserve.
Delivery & outcome
Delivered mobile and backend functionality and reduced backend response times by approximately 30%. The work also connected sign-in providers with shared conversation history.
